Mobile Internet Speed Reduced to 2G
In response to the current situation in Ladakh, authorities have opted to dial down internet speeds to 2G.
“In light of the prevailing security conditions in the Union Territory of Ladakh and intelligence inputs from the Superintendent of Police District Leh and other agencies, there is a concern about the potential misuse of Mobile Data Services by disruptive elements to instigate public unrest through social media,” stated Dr. Shiv Darshan Singh, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Ladakh.
The order, obtained by Kashmir Scroll News Agency, elaborated on the necessity to maintain public peace and law & order, leading to the decision to limit mobile data services to 2G temporarily.
The directive specifically targets the reduction of internet speeds in Leh city, encompassing a 10-kilometer radius, from 1800 Hrs on 06-04-2024 to 1800 Hrs on 07-04-2024.
This measure aims to mitigate the potential risks associated with unrestricted access to higher-speed internet services during this sensitive period in Ladakh.
